Chasey Lane
I know I have already complained about the sad and sorry state of German Radio programming. It's still bad, nothing has changed there, but there is an interesting aspect to this that I don't think I have ever talked about. There are many songs with English lyrics that rarely get airplay on any station in an English speaking country because of the song's lyrical content. However, because English is not the native language here, some songs are in heavy uncensored rotation. The two songs that stick out the most are:
- The Ballad of Chasey Lane by The Bloodhound Gang
- Killing in the Name by Rage Against The Machine
Usually the latest American hip-hop gangsta thugged-out blingiddy-bling-bling joint won't be censored either, but I have heard a censored "clean track" a few times on the radio. I have been told by someone in the know, that this is because the clean tracks come straight from the record companies and their corporate motherships want to avoid any controversy that might be caused by obscene lyrics.
I don't know about them, but I only answer to one Mothership.
